Grindelwald, a picturesque village high in the Swiss Alps along with the neighboring Wengen and Murren create a fairy tale image of alpine skiing unrivalled anywhere else in Europe. The large sheer faces of Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau make for an ideal backdrop to any photo and probably one of the most famous Alpine landscapes in all of Europe.

In the valley and town below besides the incredible views all around there are quaint Swiss Chalets and restaurants. Trains carry skiers, as well as tourists to Kleine Scheidegg, a high point in Grindelwald. The resort also boasts Europe’s longest gondola and has approx. 213 km of ski area for a variety of skill levels.

Visitors can reach the top via the Pilatus Railway, the world’s steepest cogwheel railway or via panoramic gondolas and cableways. Local legend says it was named after Pontius Pilate the Roman leader responsible for the death of Jesus.
