Hever Castle, Kent

  • Destination: UK - England
  • Duration: 1 day

This castle located just 30 miles from London was the home of the Boleyn family from 1462 to 1539. Ann Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII of England, lived much of her youth at this castle and later was passed onto his fourth wife, Anne of Cleves.

Today, the castle is a tourist attraction with its connection to Henry VIII and his wives and has many Tudor paintings, furniture, and belongings to the former queens. The castle is spread over three floors where much of the original house timbers can be seen within the walls. The castle also has the oldest working original portcullis in England and a yew maze which was planted in 1904. The castle was extensively refurbished by one of its previous owners, William Waldorf Astor.
